ABOUT MICHAEL

About Michael
Michael was born in Edina, Minnesota 1999. His parents Peter and Tina Andrew had spent the first 8 years of their marriage traveling the world and were ready to start a family. His sister Michaela was born 2 years later in Aberdeen, South Dakota where the Andrew family’s swim journey began.
While living in Aberdeen the family dove headfirst in to the world of swimming. Michael discovered his love for the water when he was only 7 years old. By the time he was 14 years old, close to 100 National Age Group records later, Michael was presented with an opportunity to go Pro. This was a decision that would shake the swimming culture and bring with it a lot of attention. This caused quite the stir partly because he was the youngest swimmer in history to go pro, but also because his training style was so uniquely different to a traditional program.
In the early years of swimming competitively the Andrew family set out to be the best and leave no stone unturned. It was in 2009 when Michaels parents met Doctor Brent Rushall at a swimming convention, after a jaw dropping presentation on the 8 myths of swimming. This is when coach Peter had determined how to train Michael moving forward, and this methodology was soon after given the name of USRPT (Ultra-Short, Race-Pace Training).
Michael is never far from the water. When he’s not in the pool chasing pace, he’s at the beach with his friends surfing, diving, spearfishing, paddling, or playing beach volleyball. His life has always revolved around a love for the water.
Before making the move to Southern California Michael grew up very active. From playing soccer, to basketball, and even hockey for a season. Being competitive by nature swimming was always a clear gifting that he desired to pursue the rest of his sporting life.
Growing up Michael was encouraged by his parents to compete in all 4 strokes, and because of this he still holds National Records in all 4 strokes up to the 400 IM. He’s continued to be incredibly versatile in the pool and became the first man to final in each individual stroke at the 2019 World Championships.
