The name Khayal comes from a Persian/ Arabic word that means Imagination .
Khayal is sung with variations and freedom of expression. The speed of the different tempos gradually increases over the time of the performance

 

The origins of Khayal are often associated with the famous musician Amir Khusrau. (1253–1325)
