MAT PARK GOLF ACADEMY (MPGA)
More than 90% of golfers said “yes” when asked if the mental game was important to their success. There’s a good reason why!
For many years, psychologists have studied factors that lead to high performance and it boils down to 3 key elements:

Believing
Believing in oneself and the ability to get the job done no matter what is at stake.

Ability
Ability to manage high levels of stress at any given time.

Optimism
Having high levels of optimism about the future.
These 3 factors revolve around the mental game. At the core, the mental game is the control center of an athlete. When a player learns to control their thoughts and shift their mindset quickly after mistakes to something called “the neutral zone,” and gradually learn techniques of stress management and trained optimism, they become players that take their game to another level. These skills can be taught and we have created a certification program to show you how to not only learn these skills yourself, but teach them to all the students you influence and teach. Our certification program will guide you through a step-by-step process to learn the mental side of golf to enhance your business, your game, and your life.

“The MPGA Level 1 training has not only transformed my own golf game, it has revolutionized my teaching approach with my students. I now integrate mental training in my teaching philosophy and it allows me a fresh, new, and innovative outlook on my teaching approach and it maximizes my impact with the students I teach. And they love it!”
Chris Breed, PGA Golf Professional at Berry Hills Country Club

- Have you ever felt disappointed because your students are shooting higher scores in tournaments and you know it’s not a physical thing?
- Have you felt secretly angry at some parents because they keep getting in the way of your student’s growth and progress and you don’t know what else to do or say?
- Do you ever feel unmotivated to go to work, even though deep down you still love to teach and
be around golf? - Does it make you angry that you believe in your students more than they believe in
themselves? - Have you ever felt limited in your ability to truly connect with your students because of a mental block they are experiencing with their game?
The Painful Discovery that Led Me to You Today
Before creating MPGA, there was a period in my life where I struggled so badly and got in a depressive state because of golf. I was in a slump. I lost my division 1 full scholarship and all of my hopes and dreams of playing on the PGA Tour, something I aspired to do ever since I was 4 years old.
At the peak of my golf slump, I trained harder than ever on my technique and my physique, but it felt like I was actually getting worse. People around me, especially my parents and my golf coach were at a loss on what to say or how to teach me. At this point it was all experimentation to see if there was anything that would get me out of this slump which only made matters worse. What’s ironic was that my swing looked gorgeous and I drained everything on the practice green and in practice rounds. But as soon as I played in a competitive round, everything changed. I couldn’t stop thinking about negative outcomes and I focused more on the emotions of disappointment and embarrassment than winning or hopes for the future. This was all until I discovered sport psychology.
The moment I learned how the brain worked and how our emotions can literally hijack our entire system, I was hooked and fell in love with the field of psychology. I began to understand that my slump had nothing to do with my technique or my physical game; it had everything to do with my mental game. Controlling my thoughts and managing my emotions allowed me to produce my best swings no matter what was at stake and these teachings not only worked for me, it also worked for those I began sharing it with.
I immediately saw the need for this and dove into grad school to get my masters in sport psychology and my doctorate in clinical psychology. I became a full time professor at a private University in California and the more individuals I met with and helped, the stronger my calling became.
Through 25 years of field research and teaching the mental game to players of all levels of competitive play, I have built my own academy and a philosophy of training you how to teach these same skills to those you lead and train.

One of the key benefits of our Level 1 Certification Program is that it teaches coaches, trainers, and even parents of junior golfers how to help their athletes improve their self-awareness. This includes understanding thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and how these components can impact scores on the green.
By becoming more self-aware and discerning, golfers will be better able to identify and address mental blocks, build resilience, and manage their emotions in the heat of competition. Our program empowers you to communicate how to overcome these hurdles in a way that truly resonates.
At MPGA, we’ll teach you how to get your students past any negativity. This involves techniques for managing pre-shot anxiety, dealing with distractions, and maintaining focus under pressure. Through determination to triumph, golfers will be able to sink their shots with precision and make professional real-time decisions like never before.
We further specialize in helping your players boost their confidence and competitive instincts. Without firm self-belief, no amount of physical skills are enough to make the cut. That’s why we are obsessed with helping you encourage your students to build an ironclad faith in their own abilities. After all, golfers with plenty of conviction are more likely to trust their swing and take calculated risks that pay off in the end.
With carefully crafted training exercises, community support, group coaching, and online course materials, the MPGA Level 1 Mental Coaching Certification Program is a fantastic way to improve your knowledge of an often overlooked aspect of the game.
Whether you're just starting out in your golf training career or are looking to take your coaching skills to the next level, the MPGA Level 1 Mental Coaching Certification Program is a vital resource that can help you accomplish what you set out to achieve. There is no better investment than one you can make in yourself and the future of your students.
